Readwise
Your Readwise highlights, from Kindle and other readers, in each book's highlights note.
Readwise collects highlights from Kindle, Apple Books, Kobo and more. Turn it on in Settings → Library Hub → Providers, paste your access token, and select Import highlights from Readwise… under Sync on the Library panel's Library tab.
What it brings#
- Your highlights, in each book's highlights note (
Books/Highlights/<book> (highlights).md), as callouts with your note on the highlight, where in the book it was (page 44, location 120), and a link back to the highlight in Readwise. - Only books. Articles, tweets and podcasts in Readwise are left alone.
- Only books you have a note for. Readwise holds highlights, not books, so it never makes a note. A highlight for a book with no note is counted in the preview and skipped. A Kindle book is matched by its ASIN when your note has one (from Audible or Audiobookshelf), then by title and author.
Importing#
Import highlights from Readwise… reads what changed since the last import, says what it would add (new highlights, how many are already in your notes, how many are skipped and why), and adds them when you choose Import. Every change is logged and can be undone from Undo a notes sync.
A highlight you delete from a note stays deleted: the next import asks only for what changed. Import all highlights again… reads everything and brings deleted highlights back.
Connect#
- Copy your access token from https://readwise.io/access_token.
- In Connect… on the Readwise tile, paste it. It is kept in Obsidian's keychain.
What it sends#
Requests go to readwise.io with your token and ask for your highlights. Nothing from your vault is sent. Readwise is a cloud service with its own terms. Library Hub never changes anything on your account.
