Keep a reading list

Track what you want to read, what is up next, what you are reading and what you finished.

Reading status#

Each book note has a reading_status property, with one of five values: want to read, up next, reading, read or set aside. Started and finished dates are kept beside it.

From a book note, run:

  • This book: Add to up next
  • Reading: Set reading status… (want to read, up next, reading, read, set aside)

You can also add a book from a shelf card, or with Add to up next in the More menu on the Book tab of the Library panel.

The queue#

What is up next is a plain numbered list of links in one note, Books/Up Next.md. Edit it by hand whenever you like. Settings → Library Hub → Shelves → Reading list opens it and lets you choose another note.

The reading list view#

Run Reading: Open the reading list. It shows:

  • what you are reading;
  • what is up next, which you can drag to reorder;
  • suggestions near the book you finished last;
  • what you finished recently.

Covers carry badges where they apply: not owned, audiobook only, and book N of M in a series.

A book you are reading shows a NN% read badge, taken from your place in the reader. See Year in review for what you finished and when.
