Troubleshooting
The messages you may see, and how to fix each one.
"Learning Editor needs Model Hub. Install and enable it from Community plugins."#
Why: the coach runs through Model Hub, and it isn't installed or enabled. Fix: install and enable Model Hub, and set up a provider in it. The local checks work without it.
"Learning Editor needs Model Hub API or newer; this Hub offers …"#
Why: your Model Hub is older than this plugin needs. Fix: update Model Hub.
"This version of Model Hub can’t run the coach. Update Model Hub."#
Why: the coach needs Model Hub's agent runs, which your version doesn't have. Fix: update Model Hub.
"The coach reached its budget before handing in findings. Nothing was saved."#
Why: the run hit Spending limit per run before it handed in any marks. Fix: raise Spending limit per run in Settings, or pick a cheaper model for the coach in Model Hub.
"The coach finished without handing in findings. Nothing was saved."#
Why: the run used its 8 steps without handing in marks that could be placed. Fix: run it again. If it keeps happening, pick a stronger model for the coach in Model Hub.
"The coach run failed: …. Nothing was saved."#
Why: Model Hub or the provider refused or failed the run. The message after "failed:" is theirs, such as a spending limit on the tier or a provider error. Fix: follow that message. Model Hub's troubleshooting page explains its messages: https://insurgently.com/docs/model-hub/troubleshooting
"… couldn’t be placed." after a coach run#
Why: some of the coach's marks quoted words that aren't in your note, so they were left out rather than put in the wrong place. Fix: nothing to do. The rest of the marks are saved.
"A habit rule is switched off: …"#
Why: one of the rule's own examples failed, so the rule was switched off rather than mark your notes wrongly.
Fix: open the panel and look in Rules and profile to see why, then fix the rule's flags or allows examples. See Habit rules.
"This finding is out of date. The text changed since it was made."#
Why: you edited the words inside the mark after it was made. It turns gray and won't apply. Fix: run the checks or the coach again, or dismiss the mark.
The strip says some findings no longer match#
Why: the note changed since those findings were made, and their words can't be found. Fix: run the checks again, or Coach this note again for the coach's marks.
"Couldn't read that file: …"#
Why: Import profile from a file… couldn't read the path you typed.
Fix: check the full path. ~ means your home folder.
"Importing from a file works on desktop only."#
Why: reading a file outside the vault needs the desktop app. Fix: import on desktop, or paste the text into your profile note.
"Learning Editor: these commands moved into the Learning Editor panel…"#
Why: only eight commands are in the command palette now. The rest are buttons in the panel. If you had given a keyboard shortcut to one that moved, this notice names it, once. Fix: open the panel and use the button, or give a shortcut to one of the eight palette commands in Settings → Hotkeys.
Questions#
A command I used isn't in the command palette#
It moved into the panel: select the spell-check icon in the left ribbon, or run Learning Editor: Open the panel. The palette keeps Open the panel, Coach this note, Check this note, Go to next finding, Go to previous finding, Show finding, Apply finding and Dismiss finding.
I can't find Writing progress#
It's the Progress section of the panel.
No spelling or grammar marks show#
Check that Spelling and grammar is on in Settings and that Mechanics is shown. If Harper failed to load, the reason is in the developer console, and the next check tries again.
A word I spell my own way keeps getting marked#
Add it to the dictionary note beside your profile, one word per line. See Create your profile.
A mark keeps coming back#
A dismissed mark doesn't come back for the same words and kind. If similar words keep being marked, add them to Voice to keep in your profile, or accept the proposal when Review what it learned offers it.
Does it work on mobile?#
No. Learning Editor is desktop only.
