Learning Editor

Feedback on your writing, marked on the exact words, from a coach that learns your habits.

Learning Editor marks your draft where it needs work: a hedge to cut, a word you lean on, a sentence that runs too long, a typo. Each mark sits on the exact words and says why. You apply it or dismiss it. Nothing in your note changes until you do, and one undo takes a change back.

It reads your profile, a note where you write down your voice, the words you never want changed and the habits you want to break. The checks follow it. When you dismiss a mark you can say why, and over time the plugin proposes changes to your profile. You accept only the ones you agree with.

The words to know#

WordWhat it is
MarkOne piece of feedback on one span of your note. It shows as a wavy underline, or as an inline diff with the cut words struck.
KindThe group a mark belongs to: Voice, Clarity, Line, Cuts or Mechanics. Each has a color, and you can show or hide each one.
ProfileThe note that describes your voice and habits. Learning Editor/profile.md unless you change it.
Habit ruleA small note that tells the local checks which words to mark. See Habit rules.
CoachA model that reads the whole draft against your profile, when you ask. It runs through Model Hub.

What runs where#

  • On your device, free: the habit checks, spelling and grammar (checked by Harper, bundled with the plugin), your habit rate, and what the plugin learns from your decisions.
  • Through Model Hub, only when you ask: the coach. Your provider bills you for each run. See Privacy and costs.

What you need#

  • Obsidian 1.13.1 or later, on desktop. Learning Editor does not run on mobile.
  • Model Hub, for the coach. The local checks work without it.
