# Settings

> Every setting, in the order the settings tab shows them, and the commands in the command palette.

Open **Settings → Learning Editor**. The settings are searchable: type a word in the settings search box and the matching rows show. The tab has six sections: Profile, Checks, Coach, Marks, Learning and Panel.

## Profile

| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| **Profile note** | The note that describes your voice and habits. Saved a moment after you stop typing. | `Learning Editor/profile.md` |
| **Rules folder** | The folder of habit rule notes the local checks use. Saved a moment after you stop typing. | `Learning Editor/rules` |
| **Your profile** → **Create your profile** | Makes your profile from the starter and opens it, or opens the one you have. | |

## Checks

| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| **Keep checked notes up to date** | Once you've checked a note, checks it again when you open it and after you stop typing. Notes you haven't checked are never checked by themselves. | On |
| **Spelling and grammar** | Checks spelling and grammar on your device, with Harper. Turning it on works without a restart. | On |
| **Write habit rate to notes** | After each check, saves the habit rate in the note's properties as `habit_rate`. This changes the note. See [The panel](the-panel.md). | Off |

## Coach

| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| **Spending limit per run** | The most one coach run may spend, in US dollars. It must be above 0; anything else is not saved. | 1 |
| **Model** → **Choose the coach’s model** | Says whether Model Hub was found, and opens Model Hub's settings for the coach's role, where you pick the model. Grayed out without Model Hub. | |

## Marks

| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| **Ask why when dismissing** | Offers a one-tap reason when you dismiss a mark. It helps the plugin learn. | On |
| **Voice**, **Clarity**, **Line**, **Cuts**, **Mechanics** | A menu for each kind, **Underline** or **Inline diff**. Voice is tone slips, Clarity is vague words and unclear references, Line is rewrites, repetition and weak verbs, Cuts is hedges and filler to take out, Mechanics is typos and agreement. | Underline; Cuts and Mechanics use Inline diff |
| **Show voice marks** (and one for each other kind) | Draws that kind of mark in your notes, or hides it. | On |

Changes reach every open note at once.

## Learning

| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| **What the coach learned** → **Review what I’ve learned** | Opens the proposals waiting for you. | |
| **Turned down** | The kinds of marks you turned down from a review, by source, such as *Spelling and grammar, mechanics*. Select **Remove** beside one to see those marks again. | Nothing turned down |

## Panel

| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| **Open the panel on start** | Opens [the panel](the-panel.md) beside the first note you open. The note keeps the focus. | On |

## Commands

The command palette lists eight commands. None has a default keyboard shortcut. Each starts with **Learning Editor:**.

| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
| **Open the panel** | Opens [the panel](the-panel.md). |
| **Coach this note** | Runs the coach on the open note. |
| **Check this note** | Runs the local checks now: habits, and spelling and grammar when they're on. From then on the note is kept up to date. |
| **Go to next finding**, **Go to previous finding** | Moves to the next or previous mark. |
| **Show finding** | Opens the card for the mark at the cursor. |
| **Apply finding**, **Dismiss finding** | Applies or dismisses the mark at the cursor. |

Everything else is in [the panel](the-panel.md): **Stop coaching**, **Apply all visible**, showing or hiding a kind and switching it to inline diff, **Clear findings**, **Write habit rate to this note**, **Review what I’ve learned…**, **Create your profile**, **Import profile from a file…**, the list of habit rule problems and **Copy the starter habit rules**.

If you had given a keyboard shortcut to a command that moved into the panel, a notice tells you once which ones. You can give a shortcut to any of the eight in **Settings → Hotkeys**.
